Art & interior
When the artwork is created out of your wall color.
This is a commission work where the painting is created based on the living room color. Before I began creating this art work, I visited the client´s home to see the actual wall, and together we agreed on the size, design and colors.
Something old, something new..
Even though the interior is quite soft with the basket chair, bright wooden floor and the brown colored mirror, these paintings were used to tighten up the style and give the interior a modern and more masculine look.
The black lamp and desk also do their job to define the modern impression of this room.
Both paintings are made in the same colors as the black & brown interior, therefor they create a certain harmony despite of the contrast to the creamy walls.

Art makes the office more personal
Usually office interiors are quite minimalistic and without a personal touch. If you want to add a more soft look and also create a space to relax in, art on the wall will solve the problem.
Did you know that looking at art quite often makes you calm down and relieve stress? Decorate with art and you can also change the whole atmosphere in a room!
When art decides the interior.
This art collector bought this INKBIRD painting two years before their new house was ready, and when they chose colors for the kitchen and living room, they used the painting as a blueprint.
Paint and metal, design and decorations.
In this picture you can see both how the colors in paint and metal interior decorations matches, but also how the horse and trees matches, naturally. So, there are several ways to match both art and interior. You could either choose to match colors, design or textures.
When everything just matches.
This painting matches almost every color in this living room! You may think it was customized, but the art collector bought it three days after it was finished, and had never seen it before. - Sometimes you´re just lucky to find art that matches your interior!
Dark contrasts.
In this living room hangs my first painting, and it really brightens up the black wall. The colors I´ve used in the painting also matches the pillows in the sofa, which combines and complements the art and the interior.
New art - old wall.
In this wonderful appartement from 1885 in Oslo, one of my paintings decorates the lovely old brick wall.
The painting was bought years after the appartement, but it is great to see how the structure and texture in the background matches the brick construction, both in color and lines.
Choose art with a mood.
When you choose art for a room, I would advice you to choose art with a mood that fits the room and how you would like to feel whenever you´re in that particularly room.
If you want and need to wake up to calmness and harmony, you should go for a painting that matches the colors and textures in the room. It creates a relaxing and soothing feeling.
Some of us need might need some help and extra energy to get up in the morning, -well, then you should think about having a painting that does that to you, both in color and design. Think about what kind of feeling a painting gives you, and then choose.
Fine lines.
A simple ink pen drawing of the MONKS in a black frame, matches the fine lines and simplicity in this art collector`s interior.
Black lines, black frame and black chairs contributes to make a more strict and modern style in this room.
Bright colors - harmony or contrast?
When you decorate your home with art, it lifts the whole interior and the entire room to another level. Imagine this hall without any art works on the walls.. -it would just be a plain white room. Delicate perhaps, but still quite boring.
If your walls are bright like these, you could either hang up light and bright colored art and you will create a great harmony between the art and the interior. Or you can chose darker colors in the art and get great contrasts. There is also a possibility to use a dark frame as the one on the left side to create a contrast even if the painting is painted in bright colors.
MONKS & KÄHLER
Opposites attracts.
When you decorate your home, remember that opposites attracts, and that it also helps you to create a personal style in your interior. Mix and match different textures, styles, and surfaces! If you keep it in the same palette of colors, I dare to say it will always make great match, and it is difficult to make mistakes. Nevertheless, there is a balance, -and if you find it hard to see what matches and what´s not, you can always contact someone who can.
Use art to highlight your interior
Here you can see how the black cabinet picks up the same color in the painting above, and the frame and black details in the other art work far to the left. Also the chairs around the table have black colored legs which too matches the dark details in the art.
Art makes your interior look fabulous!
When you decorate with art that matches your furniture and interior ornament, you will get a beautiful overall room that certainly provides a great atmosphere.
When framing a painting keep in mind to choose a frame that matches some of the other ornaments in the room.
For example: if you have silver handles on a door/cabinet, maybe even a lamp stand, choose a silver frame.

Let art inspire you.
Who said you can´t have art in the kitchen?
Sure you can! And if you choose a design that inspires you and make you happy, that feeling will stay with you whenever you´re in the room.
You can have a painting of food, or people eating.., or something else that might even don´t belong in the kitchen area at all. Most important is that the art work gives you a great feeling and get you in a even better mood, -because in the kitchen you will be making food,- and making food without passion and joy, actually doesn´t taste very good. That´s my opinion.. ; )
Let the light lift up the darkness.
The walls are painted in Sophisticated Blue by Jotun Lady, and the drawer in highlight black. Then it is nice to make a contrast with a lighter painting that also matches the bright grey tiles on the floor.
Same colors + same interior = harmony
Here you´ll see how the colors in the painting matches the lamp and the ladder in the room, and how well the motif of the sea so beautiful fits the soft, navy style in the room.
Because everything is held in a certain palette of colors and style, it creates a great harmony and a relaxed feeling.
That is another great advice for you when you are looking for a painting on your wall; have a look around and see what kind of style, interior and ornaments that are in the room. Then you will soon get an idea of what kind of painting you should go for.
Why not?
Some people even want art in their bathrooms, -and why not? Especially when you have a bath tub like this.
If you want to decorate your bathroom with art, please do remember that there is moisture and temperature fluctuations, so the art work should be protected. Frame the art work with glass and be sure that it´s sealed properly so that no moisture will destroy the canvas, paint or the blind frame.
Warm colors and soft lines.
Warm colors and soft lines in a painting and the interior almost automatically creates a warm and cozy feeling in a room.
It just makes you want to stay in all day and enjoy a nice cup of tea...
Same style, different wrapping.
This is the exact same living room as the picture above, but with some other paintings behind the sofa.
Even though the picture has more daylight, it is the paintings on the wall that changes the atmosphere and style in the room.
If you are lucky to have a great, big wall you can either choose one large painting which will fill the whole wall, or you can decorate with more art works and hang them in line, as to be seen here. But you may also place them asymmetrically and create an even more exciting look.
