M O N K S - explores stillness, presence, and inner space.

The figures appear quiet and grounded, often suspended between form and abstraction. Through restrained color and subtle movement, the series reflects a search for calm and contemplation.

These works are not portraits, but symbols — invitations to pause, breathe, and turn inward.

The Monks series began with a simple sketch over thirty years ago, rediscovered in 2015. From that moment, a quiet memory grew into a lasting presence in my work.

Over time, the Monks took shape as paintings and sculptural forms, becoming a recurring motif and a constant source of inspiration.

The Monks in a Boat emerged during a period of deep personal loss, when I had to let go of my beloved sailboat. Through the process of creating them, the Monks became a vessel for reflection — a way of navigating grief and giving form to what could no longer be held.

To me, the Monks represent strength and belonging. They carry weight and presence — a calm authority shaped by experience. They embody balance, discipline, and the quiet mastery of inner peace. Through my Monks, I explore the steady heartbeat beneath change, the gentle humor of companionship, and the timeless pull toward stillness in a world that never stops moving.
